Sharing time and talents to support the community

I’ve always had a passion for supporting causes that help children, I think in large part because I was so fortunate to have a childhood surrounded by a community of people who loved and supported me. Now that I have my own daughter, I want the same for her – and for all children.

As a new mom, it’s apparent to me why they say, ‘it takes a village.’ Being a good parent is not easy, even when everything is going right. For families who are facing challenges, whatever they may be – the loss of a job, an illness, a leaky roof – Children’s Home Society of Washington is a support system that can make a real difference and positive impact on families in our communities.

After seeing the many serious challenges kids can face through the lens of my sister’s work as a teacher in underserved communities, I understand the essential need to provide stability and resources to help kids and their families through difficulties. Every family and every situation is unique, making CHSW a critical organization as it addresses and supports such a wide variety of needs.

Throughout my career as a communications professional, I’ve had the privilege of working with leading nonprofits supporting children in foster care in Washington and fighting hunger in our country. I also spent five years managing national corporate partnerships for Make-A-Wish America, so I’m looking forward to using my background in communications and nonprofit management to add value to the important work CHSW is doing. I am also proud to follow in my dad’s footsteps, a CHSW board member, by serving on CHSW’s marketing advisory committee.

Jenna Hulse is a senior account supervisor at MSL, a volunteer wish granter for Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington and a member of Children’s Home Society & Trust Foundation’s Marketing Advisory Committee.
