Red Stocking History

Red Stocking was launched in 1909 as "Little Red Stocking." A paper stocking, a return envelope, and a letter were sent to the state's Sunday schools and business community. In January 1910, CHSW's in-house publication, Home Finder, reported on its success. "More dollars were found in Seattle than we had any idea could have left the East, where 'rag' money is so popular."

Every year since, the Red Stocking Campaign has asked the community to give back to Washington's children and families. While the red stocking graphic has changed with the times, it has remained a symbol of hope and promise for children statewide.
